The Best AI Transcription Tool Built With GPT4 (and it's free!)

Virtual meetings are here to stay. We might as well get good at them.

We can categorize them, optimize them, meet one-on-one or in teams, but the fact remains—they’re going to stay a big part of our professional lives.

With a staggering 58 percent of Americans reporting that they have the option to work from home for all or part of the week, working virtually, and all remote meetings that come with it represent a significant amount of our time. Remote meetings allow us to overcome geographic and logistical challenges, as well as remove the need for large office spaces and the associated overhead.

Fortunately, there are tons of guides on how to take great meeting minutes and dozens of great note-taking apps out there. But they all have one thing in common: you have to write the notes yourself.

This means either trying to hurriedly write down everything that's said during the meetings or doing your best to remember what happened after it’s over. Neither option is ideal and both mean you’re spending excess time on something that’s both inefficient and introduces greater room for human error.

This is where AI transcription comes in.

What is AI transcription?

With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), automatic live transcription has become a reality. Supernormal leverages OpenAI’s GPT4 AI to process, understand, and transcribe meetings. What’s more, because of the language comprehension ability of GPT4, the software can also pull out relevant information like key decisions, action items, and who said what.

After your meeting is over, a new tab will open up and automatically populate with everything that was said during the meeting. From there, you can edit bullet points, highlight critical sections, and even have your notes shared automatically with meeting participants.

Understanding AI Transcription

There are now AI tools that take the place of either hiring professional (human) transcriptionists or taking notes yourself. They do this by harnessing the power of Natural Language Processing (NLP). NLP allows the software to analyze live or recorded audio in real-time and turn that data into an easy-to-read transcript of everything that’s been said.

This speech-to-text technology also allows for handling background noise, different speakers, and multiple conferencing platforms—all while maintaining a minimal error rate.

These advanced algorithms and their ability to provide accurate transcription aren't restricted to just meetings. They can be used in all different formats for creating subtitles, closed captions, or even transcripts for podcasts. You might recognize this process of automatic closed captioning from YouTube. The functionality of automated transcription for these use cases has the ability to streamline your workflow and save you hours out of your busy day.

How long does audio transcription take and how accurate is it? Supernormal's transcription service and speech recognition technology is at or above 95% accuracy and can transcribe hours of video in just minutes.

Additionally, Supernormal’s AI automatic speech recognition currently supports closed captions in English, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Benefits of AI transcription

The significance of this tool warrants a deeper exploration into the benefits it can make to individuals and teams of all sizes. With organizations like Pinterest, Salesforce, and The Guardian already using AI meeting transcription, the advantages are clear.

  • Less room for human error: With advanced Natural Language Processing algorithms taking notes, there’s no need to worry about missing a sentence or forgetting to jot down an item from a long list.

  • Save time in and out of meetings: There’s no longer a need to slow down meetings with pauses to write out decisions or go through your notes afterward to record what was discussed. Every word is copied down instantly with no need for human intervention.

  • Be more present in your meetings: You won’t need to juggle multiple tasks and windows with AI transcription handling note taking. You can remain fully focused on what’s being discussed, secure with the knowledge that you can always review what was said.

How to translate live video

Now that we’ve covered what AI transcription is, how it works, and the benefits it provides, let’s discuss how to implement it in your daily meetings.

For Zoom and Teams, all you have to do is connect your calendar to Supernormal and a Supernormal note-taker bot will join your call and begin transcribing audio. Then, as soon as the meeting is over, your meeting notes will open in a separate tab—complete with action items and key decisions.

For Google Meet, simply install the free Chrome extension and you’ll see an icon that means Supernormal is ready to go in your next meeting. These are the three meeting platforms that Supernormal currently supports.

How to download meeting videos from Supernormal

In addition to transcribing live meetings, Supernormal also allows you to record and save your meetings directly to your computer. Once downloaded, you can upload the files to Dropbox, Google Drive, Vimeo, or Youtube, or just keep it locally for your own records.
All you have to do is go to Your Recordings in your Supernormal dashboard, click on the “...” above your video, and select download from the dropdown menu.

How to integrate the AI note-taker with Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Slack

Supernormal has the ability to sync with your calendar and automatically include a note-taking bot in your Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings. Set up is just as easy for Google Meet.

The extension linked above is all you need to fully integrate Supernormal with Meet. All three platforms include options like downloading the video, pausing notes, and the ability to edit and share notes after the meeting is finished.

Speaking of sharing notes, our Slack integration makes it easy to share notes—even offering the ability to push notes automatically to shared Slack channels.
To set it up, all you need to do is:

  1. Connect Supernormal to Slack: From your Supernormal account, go to the setting page and click “Add to Slack.” From there you’ll be taken to Slack to finish the rest of the installation process.
  2. Choose a Channel: Once you’re done connecting Supernormal to Slack, go back to our group’s setting page. You should now see a list of Slack channels. Select the one you want to sync with your Supernormal group and hit save.
  3. Share: Supernormal notes will automatically be pushed to selected Slack channels after a meeting is complete.

Integrating AI transcription tools with customer relationship management (CRM) tools

Supernormal can also integrate with multiple CRMs including Hubspot and Pipedrive, saving you hours of work. Supernormal integrations allow you to sync recordings, notes, and highlights with deals and contacts.

When you schedule a meeting on your calendar, Supernormal will look for participants that you have in either Hubspot or Pipedrive. To share recordings or highlights with either of the two CRMs, just click on the associated integration in your share menu.
